Lost Highway is the tenth studio album by Bon Jovi. Produced by John Shanks and Dann Huff the album was recorded at Black Bird Studios, Nashville and NGR Recording, Hollywood.

The album influences the band’s rock sound with that of country music following the success of a country version of the band’s 2006 single “Who Says You Can’t Go Home“, a duet with Jennifer Nettles, which reached No. 1 on the U.S. country chart in May 2006.[10] Following the success had with the duet version of “Who Says You Can’t Go Home”, there are two songs on the album produced in collaboration with other artists, namely “We Got It Going On” featuring Big & Rich and “Till We Ain’t Strangers Anymore” featuring LeAnn Rimes.

Described by Jon Bon Jovi as a “Bon Jovi album influenced by Nashville”, the album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200,[11] becoming Bon Jovi’s first ever album to debut at No. 1 and their third album to reach that position in United States.[12] The album was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album at the 2008 Grammy Awards.

After its first week on sale, Lost Highway entered the Dutch, German, Swiss and Japanese album charts at No. 1, and the UK Album Chart at No. 2, below The Traveling Wilburys Collection. It entered the Irish and Australian charts at No. 5, although after the conclusion of Bon Jovi’s Australian tour the album climbed to No. 2. In Japan, the album debuted at No. 1 and sold over 73,212 copies in its first week of release on Oricon charts. This is the fourth such time, breaking the Beatles and the Bay City Rollers‘ record as a Western band (under Oricon’s definition) of having three number one albums in the country.[13] In the UK the album sold 79,000 copies in its first week, an improvement on Have a Nice Days first-week sales of 54,000. In Denmark, the album debuted at No. 5, but went to number one after five weeks on the charts. In the U.S., the album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 292,000 copies sold in its first week.[12] The album was certified platinum by RIAA and as of October 2008, it has sold 1,221,000 copies in the United States and over 4 million copies worldwide.

 Lyrics

1. Lost Highway

In my rearview mirror
My life is getting clearer
The sunset sighs and slowly disappears
These trinkets once were treasure
Life changes like the weather
You grow up, grow old, or you hit the road ’round here
So I drive (drive drive)
Watching white lines passing by
My plastic dashboard Jesus
Waiting there to greet us

Hey Hey I finally found my way
Said goodbye to yesterday
Hit the gas, there ain’t no brakes on this lost highway
Yeah, I’m busting loose, I’m lettin go
Out on this open road
It’s independence day on this lost highway
Hey hey, hey hey

Don’t know where I’m going
But I know where I’ve been
I’m afraid of going back again
So I drive (drive drive)
Years and miles are flying by
And waiting there to greet us
Is my plastic dashboard Jesus

Hey Hey
Hey Hey I finally found my way
Said goodbye to yesterday
Hit the gas, there ain’t no brakes on this lost highway
Hell, I’m busting loose, I’m lettin go
Out on this open road
It’s independence day on this lost highway
Hey hey
Hey, hey

Oh patron saint of lonely souls
Tell this boy which way to go
Guide the car, you’ve got the keys
Farewell to mediocrity
Kicking off the cruise control
And turning up the radio
Got just enough religion
And a half a tank of gas
Come on
Let’s go

I finally found my way
Said goodbye to yesterday
Hit the gas, there ain’t no brakes on this lost highway
I’m busting loose, I’m lettin go
When I’m out on this open road
It’s independence day on this lost highway
Hey hey

2. Summertime

Feels something like summertime
Top down ain’t nothing but time
Radio’s on and you’re by my side
Feels something like summertime

These days life goes like this
Wake up, check that off of some list
Gotta be a little something more than this
The botton of my coffee cup
I keep a, postcard in the back of my mind
White sand, sunshine
And you sining like a brand new daimond
It’s keeping me for giving up
Thinking like I had enough

You make me feel something like summertime
Top down ain’t nothing but time
Radio’s on and you’re by my side
Feels something like summertime
Like af irst slow dance and a first long kiss
There ain’t nothing baby better then this
It’s like a beach blanket and a bottle of wine
It feels omething like summertime
Sum-summer-summertime

I was a warm breeze with a cool tan
Life mapped out on the back of my hand
When I was laughing I was making plans
But I didnt laugh when I found you
Theres a heaven baby your the proof

You make me feel something like summertime
Top down ain’t nothing but time
Radio’s on and you’re by my side
Feels something like summertime
Like a first slow dance and a first long kiss
There ain’t nothing baby better then this
It’s like a beach blanket and a bottle of wine
It feels omething like summertime
Sum-summer-summertime

[Solo]

Feel something like summertime
Top down ain’t nothing but time
Radio’s on for me and my valentine
It’s like that first slow dance and that first long kiss
There ain’t nothing baby better then this
It’s like a beach blanket and a bottle of wine (yeah)
Feels something like summertime
Top down ain’t nothing but time
Radio’s on and you’re by my side,
Feels something like summertime
Just like summer time
Sum-sum-sumertime
Something like summertime

3. (You Want To) Make A Memory

Hello again, it’s you and me
Kinda always like it used to be
Sippin’ wine, killing time
Trying to solve life’s mysteries

How’s your life, it’s been awhile?
God it’s good to see you smile
I see you reaching for your keys
Looking for a reason not to leave

[Chorus:]
If you don’t know if you should stay
If you don’t say what’s on your mind
Baby just breathe
There’s nowhere else tonight we should be

You wanna make a memory?

I dug up this old photograph,
Look at all that hair we had.
It’s bittersweet to hear you laugh
Your phone is ringing I don’t wanna ask

If you go now, I’ll understand.
If you stay, Hey I’ve got a plan.
We’re gonna make a memory.
You wanna steal a piece of time?
You can sing the melody to me
And I can write a couple of lines

You wanna make a memory?

[Chorus]

You wanna make a memory?
You wanna steal a piece of time?
You can sing the melody to me
And I can write a couple of lines

You wanna make a memory?
You wanna make a memory?

4. Whole Lot Of Leaving

It’s pretty cold for late September
The autumn wind is creeping in
The summer sun packed up it’s long gone
There’s a whole lot of leaving going on, yeah

I’ll bet it’s warm in California
I think it’s time to hit the road
I just might call that band of gypsies
Go searching for our pot of gold
Seems like lately there’s a whole lotta leaving goin’ on

I close my eyes and picture your hand in mine
I still hear your voice, it takes me back to that time
Well I can find a reason to be strong
Seems like lately there’s a whole lot of leavin’ goin’ on

Close the window, draw the curtains
You ain’t the only one here hurtin
No one’s right, no one’s wrong
Lately there’s a whole lot of leavin’ goin’ on

5. We Got It Going On

Is there anybody out there looking for a party?
Shake your money maker, baby smoke it if you got it,
We just wanna have some fun, if you don’t wanna kiss this,
Everybody raise your hands, come on I need a witness.

We got it goin on
We’ll be bringing and singing just like the rolling stones
We’re gonna shake up your souls
We’ve come to rattle your bones
Cause we got it goin’ on
Hey yeah,

You gota ticket to kick it,
I wanna hear you scream now (you gota ticket to kick it I wanna hear you scream now),
Because tonight you got the right to let your hair down, (tonight you got the right to let your hair down)
Well everybody’s getting down, we’re getting down to business
Cant say ??? train, you dont want to miss this,

We got it goin on
We’ll be bringing and singing just like the rolling stones
We’re gonna shake up your souls
We’ve come to rattle your bones
Cause we got it goin’ on
Hey yeah,

And know for a public service announcement for my country cousin, Big Kenny talk to the people:
Brothers and sisters we’re here to come together as one and love everybody
Can I getta a-men (a-men)

[Solo]

We got it goin on
We got it goin on
We got it goin on
We’ll be bringing and singing just like the rolling stones
We’re gonna shake up your souls
We’ve come to rattle your bones
Cause we got it going on
Getting down with Big and Rich and Richie and Jon,
Just bringing and singing,
Why dont you all come along, (why dont you all come along)
We got it goin on,
We got it goin on,
We got it goin on,
We got it
We got it
We got it going on,
We got it
We got it
We got it going on

6. Any Other Day

Alarm clock rings, 6:45,
Must have hit that snooze button least 3 times,
Wishing this morning was still last night ,
On any other day, just might wanna die.

Traffics backed up 20 miles to the east,
Must have hit every damn red light on the street,
Weatherman says “It’s gonna rain for a week”
Hey, what can you do?

On any other day, I was blue, I was cryin’,
I could tell the world, ‘At least I’m tryin’,
The body breakin’,
The sun is shinin’ through for me and you.

On any other day, I would just go crazy,
The breaks are only gonna save me,
Baby look and love,
Who looks through?
On any other day
Yeah, Yeah!

On any other day, I was blue, I was cryin’
I could tell the world, ‘At least I’m tryin’
The body breakin’,
The sun is shinin’ through for me and you.

7. Seat Next To You

A long slow drive down an old dirt road
You’ve got your hand out the window, listenin’ to the radio
That’s where I wanna be
On an old park bench in the middle of December
Cold hard rain fallin, can’t find no cover
That would be alright with me

Hard days, good times, blue skies, dark nights
Baby, I want you to take me, wherever you’re going to
Maybe say that you’ll save me, a seat next to you

In the corner booth of a downtown bar
With your head on my shoulder smokin on a cheap cigar
That would be alright with me
In the back row of a movie or a cross-town train
I wanna hear your voice whispering my name
That’s where I wanna be

Hard days, good times, blue skies, dark nights
Baby, say that you’ll take me, wherever you’re going to
Maybe say that you’ll save me, a seat next to you

Life is like a ferris wheel spinnin around
When you get to the top it’s hard to look down
Just hang on we’ll make it through
Save me a seat next to you

When you get to the gates and the angels sing
Go to that place where the church bells ring
You know I’ll come runnin, runnin to find you

Baby, say that you’ll take me, wherever you’re going to
Maybe say that you’ll save me, a seat next to you

8. Everybody’s Broken

Welcome to the party,
Come on in and disappear,
You’re feeling like stranger,
But all your friends are here,
Little lies and cracks,
Around your eyes and mouth,
Something’s trying to get in,
Something’s trying to get out,

It’s ok, to be a little broken,
Everybody’s broken, in this life,
It’s ok, to feel a little broken,
Everybody’s broken, your alright,
It’s just life,

Step into the deep end,
Make yourself at home,
When you wonder why your breathing,
Know your not alone,
Its so hard to believe,
Its easier to doubt,
You’re trying to hold in,
But your dying to scream out,

It’s ok to be a little broken,
Everybody’s broken,
In this life,
It’s ok to feel a little broken,
Everybody’s broken, your alright,
It’s alright, its just life

[Solo]

Take a look around,
Tell me what you see,
Is who you think you are,
Who you want to be,

It’s ok, to be a little broken,
Everybody’s broken, in this life,
It’s ok, to feel a little broken,
Everybody’s broken, your alright,
Just keep on going,
Eyes wide open,
Everybody’s broken
Everybody’s broken
Everybody’s broken
Everybody’s broken
Everybody’s broken
Everybody’s broken
Yeah

9. Stranger

[feat. LeAnn Rimes]

It might be hard to be lovers
But it’s harder to be friends
Baby pull down the covers
It’s time you let me in
Maybe light a couple candles
I’ll just go ahead and lock the door
If you just talk to me baby
Till we ain’t strangers anymore

Lay your head on my pillow
I sit beside you on the bed
Don’t you think it’s time we say
Some things we haven’t said
It ain’t too late to get back to that place
Back to where, we thought it was before
Why don’t you look at me
Till we ain’t strangers anymore

Sometimes it’s hard to love me
Sometimes it’s hard to love you too
I know it’s hard believing
That love can pull us through
It would be so easy
To live your life
With one foot out the door
Just hold me baby
Till we ain’t strangers anymore

[Solo]

It’s hard to find forgivness
When we just run out of lies
It’s hard to say you’re sorry
When you can’t tell wrong from right
It would be so easy
To spend your whole damn life
Just keeping score
So lets get down to it baby
There ain’t no need to lie

Tell me who you think you see
When you look into my eyes
Lets put our two hearts back together
And we’ll leave the broken pieces on the floor
Make love with me baby
Till we ain’t strangers anymore

We’re not strangers anymore
We’re not strangers
We’re not strangers anymore

10. The Last Night

These days, its hard to have a heart
It doesn’t matter where you come from, or who you think you are
These days, it’s hard just fitting in
Why does someone have to lose, for someone else to win
We’re all looking for forgiveness, and someone we can trust
You can wrap your arms around the world
It all comes down to us

This is the last night, you’ll have to be alone
I’ll be standing right beside you, you can’t make it on your own
So walk with me, please, help me to be strong
I’ll be the shoulder you can lean on, when everybody’s gone
This is the last night, you’ll have to be alone

I know, you, heard it all before
There’s nothing worst than living less
When you yearn for something more
Makes no sense, its hard to understand
When there’s something that should fill you up
Keeps slipping through your hands

We’re all looking for answers
We’re all down here on our knees
All anybody really wants, is something to believe
Enough is enough, I can’t take any more
But I’m standing on your front porch
Kicking down your door
This is the last night

11. One Step Closer

I’ve seen the heart of darkness,
Let just say, I crossed over that line,
Held hands with the hopeless,
In too deep,on that ride, went around one more time,
When you’re standing on the edge,
You don’t look down,
Till you ready and willing to fly,

Now I’m, one step closer,
With my arms open wide,
Yeah, I’m one step closer,
And I’m willing to try this time,

I hitched a ride with forgiveness,
In that river of emotion,
I went down at third time,
I spend the night with the living,
Took a chance, looked inside,
Didn’t know who I’d find,
Standing on the corner of the long goodbye,
All alone scared, I made up my mind,

I’m, one step closer,
With my arms open wide,
Yeah, I’m one step closer,
And I’m willing to try,

I’m sick of giving up,
There’s a little luck,
I’m gonna get out of here,

[Solo]

When you’re standing on the edge,
Don’t look down,
Til you’re ready and willing to fly,

I’m, one step closer,
With my arms open wide,
Yeah, I’m one step closer,
And I’m willing to try, yeah,
I’m, one step closer,
Yeah, I’m, one step closer.

12. I Love This Town

I always knew, that I liked this place,
You don’t have to look too far, to find a friendly face,
I feel alive when im walkin down this street,
I feel the heart of the city pounding underneath my feet

Let the world keep spinning round and round,
This is where it all goes down (down down)
That’s why I, Love this town,
That’s Why I keep comin’ round,
Say hey (say hey) say yeah (say yeah)
You make me feel at home somehow, right now,
Thats why I, Love this town

I got some good friends here, I mighta broke a heart or two,
It’s gettin loud over there, the boys musta hada few
There’s a cop on the corner he knows everybodies name,
There’s some kid with a dream singin boys to spare loose change,

Let the world keep spinning round and round,
This is where it all goes down (down down)
That’s why I, Love this town,
That’s Why I keep comin’ round,
Say hey (say hey) say yeah (say yeah)
You make me feel at home somehow, right now,
Thats why I, Love this town

I hear ’em shoutin from the rooftops, dancin’ on the bars
Hangin out the windows, (something about cars! lol)
You want it, you got it,
You ready, i’m on it,
Come on now, here we go again,

That’s why I, Love this town,
That’s Why I Love this town,
No matter where you’re from, tonight you’re from right here
You make me feel at home somehow, right now
That’s why I, Love this town
Say hey, sey hey, say yeah, say yeah, I Love This Town
[repeat]

13. Lonely

There’s a whole lotta lonely
Waiting out there
There’s a whole lotta people
That’ll lead you nowhere
So be safe my lover
Let me offer my prayer
There’s a whole lotta lonely
Waiting out there

There’s a whole lot of kisses
Waiting out there
And the world you been missing
That don’t play fair
Let me offer you comfort
And show you how much I care
There’s a whole lot of lonely waiting,
Waiting out there

When love is blind sometimes the lies can get you through the night
I’m holding on to what I need till you’re too tired to fight

Now there’s a lot of lone riders
So baby beware
After the warmth of his whisper
In the cool night air
It’ll be hard to wake up to
That handsome cold blank stare
Cause there’s a hell of a lot of lonely waiting out there

[Instrumental]

When love is blind sometimes the lies can get you through the night
I’m holding on to what I need till you’re too tired to fight

Now there’s a whole lotta lonely
Waiting out there
There’s a whole lotta people
That’ll lead you nowhere
There’s only so much sorrow
That a heart can bare
There’s a hell of a lot of lonely waiting out there
There’s a hell of a lot of lonely
Baby I’m scared
Waiting out there

14. Put The Boy Back In Cowboy

They should have put her in the movies
My little country – cutie
She’s the reason I believe god made blue jeans
I was a slicker from the city
When I met that little filly
I was six feet tall
Till she brought me to my knees
I sold my forghein car for a pick up truck
And have a drink Champaign
Now its jack straight up
When you better like Hank here
Or you rather love
What’s up?

She put the boy back in cowboy
And I was just a rednecked wanna be
She put the boy back in cowboy
That southern woman made a new man out of me

The transformation was amazing
Even Jesus couldn’t save me
Late at night I was such a sight to see
At the rodeo she kissed me
Then said”boy don’t get too frisky
If you’re lucky you might too step home with me”
Yeah I got the boots above
Was dancing high to get a big
I got a big belt buckle trying to rope a cow
For me the ring of fire is this cool as Johnny Cash

She put the boy back in cowboy
Hell,I was just a redneck wanna be
She put the boy back in cowboy
That’s southern woman made a new man out of me
That country woman made a new man out of me

She put the boy back in cowboy
She put the boy back in cowboy
She’s a live wire, bonefire
Desired to be high
She got me high high high

She put the boy back in cowboy
Hell i was just a rednecked wanna be
She put the boy back in cowboy
That country woman

She put the boy back in cowboy
Hell I was just a rednecked wanna be
She put the boy back in cowboy
It sure be nice to make your company
That southern woman made a new man out of me
She put the boy back in cowboy
She put the boy back in cowboy
She put the boy back in cowboy
She put the boy back in cowboy
